How Manchester City could line up against Everton

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester City could line up for their Premier League clash with Everton on Wednesday evening.

Manchester City will endeavour to extend their winning streak across all competitions to 17 matches when they face off against Everton at Goodison Park in Wednesday's rescheduled Premier League match.

The Citizens simply swept aside Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at the weekend as their title charge gathers pace by the week, with seven points now separating Pep Guardiola's men from second-placed Manchester United, who have played a game more.

This tie was originally scheduled to be played in December, but a major coronavirus outbreak in the City camp meant that it had to be pushed back, and Everton go into this game having just lost 2-0 at home to relegation candidates Fulham.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how City could line up for the contest.

POSS MNC XI vs. EVE

Out: Nathan Ake (muscle), Kevin De Bruyne (hamstring), Ilkay Gundogan (groin)
Doubtful: Fernandinho (thigh)

Ilkay Gundogan continues to produce the goods in the absence of Kevin De Bruyne, but the Germany international was forced off with a groin problem after taking his tally to 11 for the season with a brace against Tottenham.

The midfielder has not been passed fit for this match, and Guardiola will not be prepared to take any risks with fixtures against Arsenal and Borussia Monchengladbach to come, so there will certainly be a reshuffle in the engine room.

Rodri and Bernardo Silva are both safe in Guardiola's midfield three, especially with Fernandinho also struggling to overcome a thigh injury, but Phil Foden could potentially drop deeper after several outings on the left-hand side.

Should Foden indeed move into the midfield three, Raheem Sterling should occupy the left flank, allowing Riyad Mahrez to return on the opposite side of the attack, with Gabriel Jesus hopeful of keeping his place up top over Ferran Torres.

Jesus is the top scorer in this fixture with seven goals so is expected to get the nod here, and while Sergio Aguero returned to the bench against Tottenham, he will not be thrown back into the first XI so soon after recovering from COVID-19.

Ruben Dias managed to fight off a fever in time to make the bench at the weekend and he could reprise his regular role alongside John Stones here, meaning that Aymeric Laporte may have to make way.

Oleksandr Zinchenko has done extremely well to force his way back into Guardiola's plans recently, but with Kyle Walker in contention to return to the starting lineup, Zinchenko could drop out if the impressive Joao Cancelo switches to the left.
