Tommy Smith: 'Liverpool need to dig in against Tottenham Hotspur'

Tommy Smith wants to see a disciplined approach from Liverpool against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Liverpool legend Tommy Smith has called for the Reds to become hard to beat when they travel to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Reds will be without skipper Steven Gerrard for the trip to White Hart Lane, and Smith wants to see a disciplined approach from Brendan Rodgers's side.

"All eyes will be on Joe Allen, Lucas Leiva and Jordan Henderson to give us a solid midfield base," Smith told the Liverpool Echo.

"First and foremost, we have got to be hard to beat. It seems like ages since we kept a clean sheet – we battered Norwich and West Ham but both still scored against us.

"So defending, closing people down and being tough and disciplined, as well as accurate in possession, has to be the priority. Provided we do all that, no-one can tell me that even without Stevie we can't get the points down there."

Liverpool have won their last two games in the Premier League.
