Leeds United fans to stage walk-out protest over 'pie-tax proposal'

Supporters of Leeds United are to stage a 17-minute walk-out protest at the weekend over owner Massimo Cellino's running of the club.

Leeds United supporters are planning to stage a mass walk-out during Saturday's clash with Hull City over Massimo Cellino's "outrageous" running of the club.

The controversial Italian owner has further angered fans this week by announcing an increase in ticket prices without prior warning.

An additional £5 charge to pay for food and drink at Elland Road will be added to tickets, regardless of whether those in attendance want the token or not.

Members of supporters' group South Stand SS5 have now called on those inside the ground at the weekend to leave their seats during the 17th minute of the match for a 17-minute period.

Speaking to Press Association Sport, organiser John Bond said: "We all know [Cellino] hates the number 17. We want to make it very clear to Cellino that he is not wanted. The way he runs the club is outrageous and we want our club back."

In response to fan anger surrounding the food and drink charge, a Leeds spokesman stated: "The club is looking at ways to encourage supporters to use the facilities and catering offerings on matchdays. Adult South Stand tickets are now being sold as a package, which includes the advertised standard match ticket plus meal deal voucher.

"The voucher offers a saving on the standard matchday food and drink prices, and to accommodate demand, additional catering units have been identified in the lower concourse and will be designated for serving the voucher-only meal deals."

Reports overnight also suggested that Cellino is looking to sell United's key assets in January, with every player up for sale once the transfer window reopens.
