Graham Alexander critical of Fleetwood Town display

Graham Alexander admits that his side need to "work hard" on cutting out sloppy errors after falling to their third defeat of the season at Wigan Athletic.

Fleetwood Town boss Graham Alexander has slammed his players following their "massively disappointing" performance against Wigan Athletic.

Some sloppy play from the Cod Army allowed their opponents to take a two-goal lead inside the opening 47 minutes at the DW Stadium.

Alexander's side did recover somewhat in the final 30 minutes to pull a goal back, but the former Scotland international has demanded that his side cut out the silly errors.

"No matter what you do, if you're going to give goals away you're going to put yourselves in trouble," he is quoted as saying by Fleetwood Weekly News. "It's not the first time, so it's something we really have to work hard on. There was never any danger last week when we conceded and there was never any danger on Saturday.

"The second one has come straight after half time. It's just massively disappointing 55 minutes but we have to make sure we work with these players to ensure it doesn't happen again.

"Football is about making as few mistakes as possible. Right now we're getting punished for every single one but we can't feel sorry for ourselves. If we do we're only going to compound the feelings. We'll just work as hard as we can to be ready for the next game."

Fleetwood, who are now down in 15th place, return to action next weekend when they play host to Port Vale.
