Romelu Lukaku: 'I played through pain barrier against Stoke City'

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku reveals that he nearly missed his side's 3-0 win over Stoke City because of a back injury.

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has revealed that a back problem almost resulted in him missing the club's 3-0 win away at Stoke City.

Lukaku was a major doubt for the fixture after suffering the injury against Newcastle United in midweek, but he retained his place in the side and netted the opening goal in what turned out to be a comfortable victory for the Toffees.

The 22-year-old told Evertontv: "I was a bit hesitant in training but I just went out there and went through the pain.

"I've done it several times in my Everton career - it's not the first time - but even at 80%, I was able to help my teammates; not the way I wanted to, but I did my fair share of the hard work, like everybody does in this team, and I'm happy to have scored as well.

"I want to get back to 100% now so I can give even more to the team."

Lukaku has now netted 16 goals in the Premier League this season.
