However, the Goats' sixth win of the season has barely improved their prospects as they remain rock bottom of the MLS Western Conference, nine points behind the San Jose Earthquakes.
The only goal of the contest came in the 51st minute when Erick Torres seized on a loose ball inside the area to fire past Bill Hamid.
DC boss Ben Olsen rolled the dice after going behind by bringing on Chris Pontius for Collin Martin, but his team could not find a way through their opponents.
The result leaves them equally in the mire as they trail Toronto FC by nine points at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
