Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard feels that Jose Mourinho would be "successful" if he returned to the club.

The Portuguese's future at Real Madrid is uncertain beyond this season and he has been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge.

"Jose's an absolutely fantastic manager," Lampard told reporters.

"He's one of the legends in Champions League management, there's no doubt about his credentials, whether he comes to Chelsea or whether he stays at Madrid or whatever club he goes to, I would believe he'll be successful because that's all he's ever done."

Mourinho managed the Blues from 2004 to 2007 and won the Premier League twice.
