Charlton Athletic snatch victory against Queens Park Rangers

Johnnie Jackson scores an injury-time header to give Charlton Athletic a 1-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers in the Championship

Queens Park Rangers lost ground in the race for promotion places in the Championship after Johnnie Jackson grabbed a late winner for Charlton Athletic in a 1-0 win for the hosts.

QPR had most of the ball in the opening stages of the game, but Charlton came very close to breaking the deadlock twice in a matter of seconds when Jordan Cousins and Reza Ghoochannejhad struck both posts in the 12th minute.

Ravel Morrison was lively on his QPR debut and fired a volley over the bar midway through the first period.

Nedum Onuoha then weaved his way past a couple of Charlton defenders and burst into the box before being brought down, but the referee waved play on.

Five minutes before half time, Rhoys Wiggins crossed for Ghoochannejhad, but the Iranian international saw his shot saved by Rob Green.

Morrison should have done better than slice his effort wide of the mark after an hour following good work by Kevin Doyle.

Marcus Tudgay came on for his Addicks debut to pair Astrit Ajdarevic up top as Chris Powell juggled his attacking options, but a mistake by the Charlton shot-stopper Yohann Thuram-Ulien gifted Modibo Maiga with a chance; however, the forward ran the ball out of play.

Rangers manager Harry Redknapp introduced Yossi Benayoun as he searched for a late goal, but it was Charlton who snatched a dramatic winner.

With the game in injury time, the Charlton skipper, Jackson, rose highest to nod home and send the home support into raptures.
