The Italian arrived from Torino in the summer after scoring 22 goals in Serie A last season, and he leads the attack alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

There are also starts for Henrik Mkhitaryan and Milos Jojic, while Marco Reus is fit enough to retain his place in the side following his ankle injury in June.

Meanwhile, summer signing Hakan Calhanoglu makes his debut for Leverkusen, with Stefan Kiessling starting as the lone striker.

Borussia Dortmund: Weidenfeller; Piszczek, Sokratis, Ginter, Durm; Kehl, Jojic; Aubameyang, Reus, Mkhitaryan; Immobile

Bayer Leverkusen: Leno; Jedvaj, Toprak, Spahic, Boenisch; Castro, Rolfes, Calhanoglu; Son, Bellarabi, Kiessling
