Werder Bremen end Diego Contento pursuit

Werder Bremen pull out of the race to sign Bayern Munich defender Diego Contento.

Werder Bremen general manager Thomas Eichin has revealed that the club have ended their interest in Bayern Munich defender Diego Contento.

The 23-year-old has been widely linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena this summer, but it appears that he will now remain with the European champions.

"Just recently we have received the clear signal from Bayern Munich that they are not ready to part company with him," Eichin told Kreiszeitung Syke.

"Therefore we have stepped out of any bidding. You never know in football but at this point in time, a transfer will not happen."

Contento has a contract with Bayern until 2016.
