Half-Time Report: Daniel Caligiuri fires Wolfsburg ahead of Bayern Munich

Wolfsburg lead Bayern Munich 1-0 at half time thanks to Daniel Caligiuri's strike at the Allianz Arena.

Wolfsburg have taken a 1-0 lead into the half-time interval of their meeting with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

As expected, it was the hosts who dominated possession for much of the early stages but Wolfsburg remained disciplined without the ball to make clear opportunities difficult to come by for Pep Guardiola's side.

The champions would threaten from distance, though, with Thomas Muller firing just past the post from outside the box before Douglas Costa tested Diego Benaglio with a speculative strike.

It was the visitors who opened the scoring when Julian Draxler led the break and lobbed the ball over the Bayern defence to find Daniel Caligiuri, who kept his composure to power a half-volley past Manuel Neuer after taking a touch in the box.

Wolfsburg looked comfortable on the ball, but they were almost pegged back immediately when Costa tested Benaglio with a powerful effort from the edge of the box.

Neuer's trademark style of rushing off his line to clear the danger handed Wolfsburg the opportunity to double their lead before the break when he lost the ball close to the halfway line, but Josuha Guilavogui could only clip the outside of the post with the first-time strike.
