Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur target Bernard joins Shakhtar Dontesk for £21.5m.

Shakhtar Donetsk has announced the signing of coveted Brazilian youngster Bernard this afternoon.

The 20-year-old had been linked with a move to both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as Porto.

A statement on the Ukrainian club's official website confirmed he has chosen the Donbass Arena, signing a five-year contract in a €25m (£21.5m) deal.

"Shakhtar Donetsk signed a five-year deal with Bernard. The transfer fee for the Brazilian midfielder, who previously played for Atletico Mineiro, is €25m," read the announcement.

Bernard, who plays from the left side, is seen as a direct replacement for his compatriot Willian, who left Ukraine to join Anzhi in January.

Arsenal are expected to turn their attention to another Brazilian, defensive midfielder Luis Gustavo, who has been told he can leave Bayern Munich despite claiming that he wants to stay at the club.
