Alexis Sanchez: New contract "depends on Arsenal"

Sanchez: New contract

Alexis Sanchez opens up on his ongoing contract talks with Arsenal, claiming that it is now down to the club to meet his demands.

Alexis Sanchez has insisted that he is "very happy" at Arsenal but has urged the club to "show confidence" in him when it comes to offering a new deal.

The Chile international now has 18 months left to run on his current contract and has been locked in talks with the Gunners since the end of last season.

Sanchez's reluctance to put pen to paper has led to suggestions that he could be on his way out of the Emirates Stadium next year, with Arsenal unwilling to let him leave for free the following summer, but discussions over fresh terms are still thought to be ongoing.

It is understood that the 27-year-old is holding out for wages in excess of £300,000 a week, which a couple of unnamed Far East teams are more than willing to offer him, and Sanchez - who has 12 league goals to his name already this season - has claimed that it is now all down to Arsenal to make the first move.

"I'm focused more on winning football matches - I'm staying concentrated on that," he told Sky Sports News. "It really doesn't depend on me - if they want to show confidence in me.

"I'm very happy at the club. I love all the staff. I'm very grateful for everybody here. It depends on Arsenal. I enjoy the relationship with the fans. I want to achieve more for them. I want to win the Premier League and the Champions League."

Speaking to reporters on Friday afternoon, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted that there had been no further developments in talks with Sanchez, although reports suggest that fellow attacking star Mesut Ozil could be close to putting pen to paper on a long-term contract.
