Mikel Arteta: 'Arsenal have two or three different transfer plans'

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admits that there is a possibility his side will not be able to do anything in the transfer market as a result of the coronavirus lockdown.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that the club have been working on "two or three" different transfer plans during the coronavirus lockdown.

The full impact of the enforced stoppage of football on clubs' finances is yet to be seen, but it is widely expected that mega-money signings will be rarer as the sport looks to recover from the unprecedented shutdown.

Even the dates that the transfer window will open are now unknown after FIFA confirmed that it will take place between the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, whenever that may be, and Arteta admitted that there is a possibility his side will not be able to do anything in the market.

"I'm planning two or three different scenarios that we can face. Depending on one of those three, we will be able to do more, less or nothing," Arteta told Sky Sports News.

"We have to react daily. We don't know what the financial situation is going to be, we don't know the rules, the timing, the window. There are so many things we cannot control at the moment.

"I went through a lot when I got here... I had eight or 10 players injured, and there were a lot of issues to deal with. The connection between fans, players and club was in a difficult state at that moment. We had to change that energy, the belief and the commitment from the players.

"I was very pleased because everyone was on board with what we were doing. We started to win three or four games in a row and there was a much more positive mindset around the place."

Arteta also confirmed that he has now fully recovered from COVID-19, having been the first Premier League manager to test positive for the disease.
