Lizzy Yarnold hopes to be "someone's inspiration"

Great Britain gold medallist Lizzy Yarnold hopes that her skeleton performance at the Sochi Winter Olympics could go on to inspire other people.

Great Britain gold medallist Lizzy Yarnold has spoken of how she hopes that her performance at the Sochi Winter Olympics could go on to inspire other people.

The skeleton champion told BBC Radio 5 Live that her gold ambitions were inspired by watching Denise Lewis winning the heptathlon at the Sydney Games in 2000 when she was aged 11.

"I could now be someone's inspiration," Yarnold said. "You have to follow your dreams and go for it. Everyone at my schools knew how driven I was.

"I loved to learn and I think that's why I'm good at skeleton because I want to know the intricate details."

The 25-year-old's gold medal is the tenth won by Great Britain in Winter Olympics history.
