British prime minister David Cameron praises Lizzy Yarnold for winning "an amazing gold" in the women's skeleton at the 2014 Sochi Games.

British prime minister David Cameron has congratulated Lizzy Yarnold for winning gold at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The 25-year-old Briton finished first in the women's skeleton event in Sochi on Friday.

"Congratulations to @TheYarnold - an amazing gold for @TeamGB in the women's skeleton," the 47-year-old wrote on his Twitter page.

Yarnold finished the race 0.97 seconds ahead of the USA's Noelle Pikus-Pace.
