World number four Andy Murray overcomes Marin Cilic and the wet conditions to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon.

Great Britain's number one Andy Murray reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon at the expense of Marin Cilic this afternoon.

It was an encounter that was heavily affected by the wet conditions at SW19 over the past two days.

The first stoppage saw the match suspended overnight, with Murray leading by one set and 3-1 in the second set.

The two players returned to Count Number One earlier today, but only one game was possible before the umpire decided to suspend the match once again as the rain began to fall.

They eventually returned for the final time with Murray leading 4-1. The world number four appeared to adjust to the wet conditions quickly and he rapidly wrapped up the second set 6-2 with a string of forehand strokes.

Murray produced further winning shots in the third, some of which allowed him to break the Cilic serve at the first time of asking. The Scot pressed home that advantage to hold his remaining service games to wrap up a 7-5 6-2 6-3 victory.

He will now take on either David Ferrer or Juan Martin del Potro for a place in the semi-finals.
