Heather Watson accuses the world's top female tennis players of shunning their fellow players.

Great Britain's Heather Watson has criticised the world's top players in the women's game ahead of Wimbledon for not conversing with their fellow competitors.

Apart from Victoria Azarenka, the British number two has claimed that players such as Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova simply blank other professionals on the circuit.

"The top three or four won't talk to anybody. Victoria Azarenka, she does say hello. But the other ones, no. They make an effort not to say hello," Watson is quoted as saying by The Sun. "It's not that they're mean, they just don't give you anything. I guess that's what they do, that's what they've been doing, that's just how they operate.

"You need to be ruthless, yeah. But you don't need to blank everybody. Some people do it, some people don't. There are top people who say 'hi', and top people who don't.

"They don't want to give you anything, no weakness. I don't see it as a weakness. You play a tennis match, don't talk to you then, fine. But off the court we're still human beings."

Watson has been drawn against American Madison Keys in the opening round at SW19.
