Novak Djokovic reclaims world number one spot after Wimbledon triumph

Novak Djokovic returns to the world number one ranking, surpassing Rafael Nadal, after his Wimbledon triumph over Roger Federer on Sunday.

Novak Djokovic has returned to the top of the world rankings after securing his second career Wimbledon title by beating Roger Federer in a five-set battle at the All England Club on Sunday.

The Serbian came through the centre-court encounter 6-7[4] 6-4 7-6[4] 5-7 6-4 to earn his seventh Grand Slam title.

Today, the 27-year-old has officially been named world number one once again, surpassing Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who held the top ranking for nine months following his return from a knee injury.

Wimbledon semi-finalist Federer sits third in the world, while Stanislas Wawrinka is ranked fourth and two-time Grand Slam winner Andy Murray resides in 10th position.

Prior to his triumph at Wimbledon, Djokovic, who also won the title in 2011, had lost his last three Grand Slam finals.
