Kyle Edmund, Johanna Konta progress in US Open qualifying

British duo Kyle Edmund and Johanna Konta move through to the second round of US Open qualifying after both recorded victories on Wednesday.

Kyle Edmund has moved closer to a first appearance in the main draw of the US Open with a straight-sets win over Peter Polansky.

The British number three broke serve once in each set to run out a 6-3 6-4 winner and move through to a clash with Argentina's Guido Andreozzi.

In the women's section, Johanna Konta continued her recent good form with a hard-fought 7-5 6-4 triumph over Hungary's Reka-Luca Jani.

The British number two, who won a second-tier event in Vancouver last week, will now play Japan's Naomi Osaka.

On Tuesday, Brydan Klein progressed through to the next stage with a three-set win over Dusan Lajovic, but Liam Broady was beaten in a deciding set by Inigo Cervantes.
