Andy Murray to begin US swing in Washington

World number three Andy Murray will begin the American hard-court swing with an appearance in Washington next week.

Andy Murray will make his first appearance on the American hard-court swing in Washington next week.

After reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals and helping Great Britain reach the last four of the Davis Cup, the world number three admitted that he needed to recharge his batteries ahead of another hectic schedule over the next six weeks.

However, ahead of Masters Series events in Montreal and Cincinnati, Murray has opted to feature at the ATP500 event in Washington, where he will be the top seed.

After receiving a bye in the first round, Murray will face either Teymuraz Gabashvili or Benjamin Becker in the last 32.

British trio James Ward, Kyle Edmund and Liam Broady all feature in the qualifying rounds.
