Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal opposed to Monday final

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal want to see the US Open final be played on Sunday rather than Monday.

US Open finalists Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are united in their opinion that the final of a Grand Slam tournament should be on a Sunday.

In previous years, the USTA have come in for criticism due to the scheduling at Flushing Meadows, which always had one player playing the semi-final on Saturday and the final on Sunday.

However, a change implemented this year, which is also in place for 2014, means that an extra day has been added to accommodate a day of rest.

"Well, to be honest, I'm not in support of Monday final, but this is what it is," Djokovic told reporters. "It's better to have Monday final now when you have a Saturday semi-final than Sunday back-to-back five sets in two days like it was before.

"It's just an ongoing subject with US Open and with people who are in organisation here. Hopefully, like the next few years, we can have the Friday/Sunday like in every other Grand Slam. I don't see why the US Open should get an exception in that."

Nadal added: "I like to finish the tournaments on Sunday, not on Monday. But talking about fair, for sure is more fair finish on Monday having one day off between semi-finals and final than play semi-finals Saturday and final Sunday."

The change also sees the women's singles final moved to Sunday.
