Andy Murray uses Beijing defeat as London motivation

Andy Murray stresses his determination to succeed at London 2012 after beating Stanislas Wawrinka.

Team GB's Andy Murray has stressed his determination to succeed after he defeated Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka in the opening round this afternoon.

Murray won the match 6-3 6-3 and afterwards, he reaffirmed his commitment to succeed after he lost in the first round in Beijing four years ago.

Murray told BBC Sport: "In Beijing, I didn't understand what the Olympics meant to me. It was my first time there and I was so excited to be there.

"I went to the opening ceremony and I was trying to watch other sports because I had never experienced it before and maybe didn't focus as hard on myself and my event.

"I know how much that loss hurt me and I wanted to come here best prepared as I could and today was a good start."

Murray will play Finland's Jarkko Nieminen or India's Somdev Devvarman in the second round.
