Heather Watson has beaten world number 27 Varvara Lepchenko in the first round of the Aegon International at Eastbourne.
The British number two earned a 6-3 6-4 victory over her American opponent on Monday afternoon.
Watson, 21, will now face Russian world number 36 Elena Vesnina in the second round of the Wimbledon warm-up event.
Vesnina progressed with a 2-6 6-4 6-3 triumph over former French Open champion Ana Ivanovic.
