Maria Sharapova has advanced through to round three of the Madrid Open courtesy of a straight-sets victory over Klara Zakopalova.
World number two Sharapova began the tie brightly and claimed an early break over her opponent from the Czech Republic.
Zakopalova failed to recover from that setback as Sharapova went on to record a 6-4 success.
Two further breaks of serve followed in the second set as Sharapova booked her place in the next round with a 6-4 6-3 triumph.
The Russian is ranked the number two seed in the Spanish capital.
