Wildcard Camila Giorgi knocks out Dominika Cibulkova at Rome Masters

Italian wildcard Camila Giorgi knocks out ninth seed Dominika Cibulkova in straight sets at the Rome Masters.

Italian wildcard Camila Giorgi delighted the crowd at the Rome Masters this afternoon with a straight-sets victory over ninth seed Dominika Cibulkova.

Giorgi broke first to take a 3-1 lead but was instantly pegged back by this year's Australian Open runner-up Cibulkova.

Giorgi was then up against it at 4-4 and had to save two break points before taking advantage of a Cibulkova wobble and claiming the set 6-4.

In the second it was world number 54 Giorgi who again moved clear first and was up 5-2 before Cibulkova rallied back to take the set into a tie-break.

Despite failing to convert a match point earlier, Giorgi came through the tie-break in convincing fashion 7-2 to reach the last 32 where she will face American qualifier Christina McHale.
