David Ferrer has begun the new tennis season with a straight-sets victory over Tomas Berdych in the Mubadala Tennis World Championship in Abu Dhabi.

The Spaniard dominated the opening set, racing into a 5-0 lead before the Czech could even get a game on the board.

Berdych did manage to break Ferrer's serve, but could not stop him from eventually taking the set 6-2.

The second set was a lot more competitive, as the pair matched each other game for game until Ferrer made the decisive break to go 5-4 ahead.

The world number five served out for victory to set up a semi-final clash with Novak Djokovic.
