Tomas Berdych beats John Isner in straight sets to reach China Open semi-finals

Tomas Berdych reaches the semi-finals of the China Open by overcoming John Isner for the sixth time in his career.

Tomas Berdych has beaten John Isner for the sixth time in his career in a 6-1 6-4 victory to reach the semi-finals of the China Open.

The Czech started strongly by grabbing a break at the first time of asking and later took Isner's serve once again as the American struggled to make an impact.

After a slow start, Isner tried to delay Berdych's set point by creating a break-point opportunity, but the 29-year-old failed to take it as his opponent grabbed the lead in Beijing.

Isner was placed immediately on the back foot at the start of the second set by losing his serve, but after the opening game, both players struggled to grab a crucial break point.

Berdych came close to sealing the match on Isner's serve, but the American managed to hold on as the game was pushed back to deuce three times.

However, it wasn't long before Berdych wrapped up proceedings by successfully serving for the match.
