Rafael Nadal targeting return to action at Acapulco ATP tournament

Rafael Nadal expects to be back playing competitive tennis by the end of the month at the Acapulco ATP tournament.

Rafael Nadal has targeted a return to tennis by the end of February at the ATP Tour in Acapulco.

The 31-year-old is currently sidelined with a leg injury which forced him to pull out of his Australian Open quarter-final against Marin Cilic in January.

On Monday, the world number one revealed that he is undergoing intensive treatment to make sure that he is fit to play in the Mexico tournament, which starts on February 26.

"It's a small injury that needs time and rest and recovery, and that's what we're doing," Nadal said at the inauguration of a specialised tennis clinic in Madrid, as quoted by Sky Sports News.

"For the moment my schedule is the same and I think I'll be able to travel to Mexico to play at Acapulco."

Nadal has twice won the Acapulco ATP tournament, in 2005 and 2013 when it used to be played on clay.
