French player Constant Lestienne given seven-month ban for betting on matches

French player Constant Lestienne is hit with a seven-month ban after betting on 220 tennis matches.

French player Constant Lestienne has been issued with a seven-month ban by the Tennis Integrity Unit after betting on 220 matches.

The 24-year-old was found guilty of gambling on tennis contests between February 2012 and June 2015.

Lestienne, who is ranked 164th in the world, was not playing in any of the matches in question, but he still breached anti-corruption rules.

In a statement, the TIU confirmed that half of Lestienne's ban has been suspended as long as he does not commit any further offences, while his $10,000 (£7,700) fine will be halved if he provides assistance to the Unit.

Lestienne sealed a wildcard position for the French Open earlier this year, but his place in the Grand Slam was rescinded when the TIU opened its investigation.
