Roger Federer believes that organisers made the right decision to hand a seventh seeding to Rafael Nadal at the French Open.
The nine-time winner has suffered problems with injury and form over the past 12 months, and Federer has insisted that he did not deserve to be seeded higher for the second major of the year at Roland Garros.
The 33-year-old told reporters: "It's totally the wrong debate in my opinion. The rankings reflect what happened during the last 12 months.
"Of course, if Rafa wouldn't have been injured from Wimbledon last year, he would be very close to the top four. If not in the top four, maybe number one or number two in the world.
"From that standpoint, I see the argument, but at the same time, I think it was going to be worse for somebody else other than Rafa."
Federer begins his campaign against Alejandro Falla on Sunday afternoon.
