Top seed Novak Djokovic admits that he was "fortunate" to overcome home favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarter-finals at the French Open.

World number one Novak Djokovic has admitted that he was "fortunate" to triumph over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the French Open quarter-finals this afternoon.

The Serbian saved four match points in the fourth set as the Parisian crowd got fully behind their man Tsonga.

However, Djokovic took the crucial set on a tie-break before romping to victory 6-1 in the fifth.

"He was the better player for most of the match," said the top seed after his 6-1 5-7 5-7 7-6[6] 6-1 victory.

"I was fortunate to come back from four match points. I don't know how I came back from that. As a tennis player, this is what you live for."

Djokovic, 25, will now face third seed Roger Federer in the last four on Friday at Roland Garros.
