Garbine Muguruza edges past Timea Bacsinszky to advance

Spain's Garbine Muguruza battles past Timea Bacsinszky in three sets to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open.

Number 24 seed Garbine Muguruza has secured her place in the fourth round of the Australian Open with a hard-fought win over Timea Bacsinszky.

The Spaniard started the match well as she managed to break the Swiss three times to claim the first set 6-3, hitting 16 winners in 46 minutes.

However, Bacsinszky rallied in the second set as she took advantage of poor play at the net by Muguruza to earn two breaks of serve to put herself back in the match with a 6-4 victory.

Muguruza upped the ante in the final set as she dominated proceedings, breaking the 25-year-old three times to storm to a 6-0 win to book her place in the last 16 of the tournament.

The 21-year-old will face the winner of the match between Serena Williams and Elina Svitolina in the fourth round of the competition.
