Mike and Bob Bryan are just one win away from setting a new record of men's doubles Grand Slam title triumphs.

Mike and Bob Bryan have reached their fifth consecutive Australian Open men's doubles final by beating Italian pair Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolelli 6-4 4-6 6-1.

The American identical twins took the first set after 33 minutes on the Rod Laver Arena before losing the second in 42 minutes.

Fognini and Bolelli were thoroughly outclassed in the final set that lasted only 21 minutes, as the Bryans made just three unforced errors between them and won 26 out of 39 points.

If they overcome unseeded Dutch pair Robin Haase and Igor Sijsling in Saturday's final, the brothers will become the most successful men's doubles partnership of all time.

Victory in Melbourne would give the Bryans 13 major titles. They currently share the record of 12 with Australia's John Newcombe and Tony Roche.
