Andy Murray hoping to repay coach Amelie Mauresmo's support

Andy Murray believes that reaching the Australian Open final justifies his decision to link up with female coach Amelie Mauresmo.

Andy Murray has praised the impact of coach Amelie Mauresmo after booking his place in the final of the Australian Open.

The sixth seed reached his first Grand Slam final since winning Wimbledon in 2013 by battling past Tomas Berdych 6-7 6-0 6-3 7-5 at the Rod Laver Arena this afternoon.

Having split from former coach Ivan Lendl last summer, Murray has since been working under the leadership of Mauresmo, and following much criticism the British number one believes that he has now proved a point.

"A lot of people criticised me for choosing her, and I think that we had shown so far this week that women can be good coaches too," he told reporters.

"Madison Keys has reached the semis this week and she is coached by Lindsay Davenport, and I see no reason why tennis can't move forward like this in the future.

"I'm very thankful for Amelie for doing it, it was a brave choice for her to do it, and hopefully I can repay her in a few days."

Murray will face either Novak Djokovic or Stanislas Wawrinka in the showpiece final.
