Robin McBryde expects Mike Phillips to shine against South Africa

Robin McBryde expects Mike Phillips to show what he is made of when Wales take on South Africa at the Millennium Stadium this afternoon.

Wales forwards coach Robin McBryde has said that he expects scrum-half Mike Phillips to put in a big performance against South Africa this afternoon.

The 31-year-old was released by French side Bayonne for allegedly turning up drunk to a video analysis session following the Amlin Challenge Cup victory over Grenoble.

Since then, he has brought legal action against his former employers, but McBryde said that Phillips will put that behind him when the Springboks visit the Millennium Stadium.

"We can expect a good solid performance from Mike," PA quotes McBryde as saying. "He has probably got to prove his worth.

"There is no better big-match player than Mike Phillips. We've seen that in the past. When he needs to deliver the goods, he comes up trumps, and I don't expect it to be any different on Saturday.

"He is vocal, he is confident and he has got a spring in his step. I have been impressed with him."

The former Llanelli Scarlets, Cardiff Blues and Ospreys star has won 77 caps for his country.
