Wales coach Warren Gatland boosted by All Blacks messages

Wales coach and former All Blacks hooker Warren Gatland describes the comments of New Zealand players regarding Wales's win over England as "uplifting".

Wales coach Warren Gatland has revealed that he received a raft of supportive messages from his home country following his team's victory over England.

The former New Zealand hooker, whose Wales side beat England 25-28 at Twickenham, even heard All Blacks players praise the manner of the victory.

On the number of well wishes he has received from his home country, Gatland told reporters: "I've got so many I'm sort of dreading the thought of answering them. It's going to take me hours.

"The support has been fantastic, particularly from friends and family particularly back in New Zealand and I saw the All Blacks press conference as well and I think the comments some of those players - I think it was Wyatt Crockett - made...He said it was pretty inspiring watching that so that's huge for us and it's pretty uplifting as well."

Regarding the reaction in Wales, Gatland added: "I had a look online at a couple of things and to just see the celebrations in Wales and people in rugby clubs and pubs and streets, it was phenomenal, and just shows what rugby means to the nation of Wales."

Gatland named the Wales team to face Fiji in their next Pool A fixture earlier on Tuesday.
