South Africa rout Scotland in Edinburgh

South Africa record a 28-0 win over Scotland in their Autumn International campaign.

Scotland's poor record against South Africa continued this afternoon as they lost 28-0 to a dominant Springboks side in Edinburgh.

The Scots lost last year's corresponding fixture 21-10 in South Africa, but they struggled to come close to their opponents this time around.

South Africa dominated the first period and took the lead after just four minutes when Willem Alberts collected a pass from Duane Vermeulen before driving through the home side's defence.

Pat Lambie passed up the chance to extend South Africa's lead after 17 minutes, but it was 14-0 after 30 minutes when Willie Le Roux converted a try.

The score became 21-0 moments later when Le Roux fed JP Pietersen, who outpaced the defensive cover before moving over the line.

The visitors continued to impress in the second period as their fourth try from Coenie Oosthuizen made it 28-0, with Scotland struggling to match the intensity from the Springboks.

Scotland improved as the half advanced, with replacement flanker Marcell Coetzee sent to the sin bin for South Africa.

The home side could not open their tally, however, with South Africa repelling a number of attacks in the latter stages.

The defeat means that Scotland have won just five of their previous 23 meetings with South Africa.
