Steve Hansen slams lack of unity in French rugby structure

Steve Hansen claims that the number of foreign players in the French Top 14 competition has contributed to their performance at the Rugby World Cup

New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen has criticised the lack of a united front in France's domestic structure, claiming that it has led to their disappointing exit from the Rugby World Cup.

Les Bleus, who were narrowly beaten in 2011 final in Auckland, conceded nine tries as the All Blacks routed Philippe Saint-Andre's side 62-13 in Cardiff.

However, Hansen has suggested that the number of foreign players in the French top flight has disrupted the development of domestic talent.

"It's difficult if you're not on the same page and I'm not sure whether in France the two organisations are on the same page," he told reporters.

"You need to have the same goals and the same vision. There are a lot of foreign players in the Top 14 and that means there are a lot of French players who are not getting the chance to grow and develop.

"If you want to be successful at international level you have to be united from the top down."

France's exit is only the second time they have failed to reach the World Cup semi-finals.
