London Wasps secure narrow win

London Wasps clinch a 44-38 win over Newcastle Falcons in a closely-fought Aviva Premiership match.

London Wasps have claimed a 44-38 win over Newcastle Falcons in a closely-fought match in the Aviva Premiership.

The visitors dominated the opening 15 minutes, with Mike Blair and Joel Hodgson both finding the try line early on.

However, Wasps were able to respond with four tries of their own, including two for Nathan Hughes, to give them a comfortable lead at half time.

After the break, a brace of tries from Noah Cato briefly put Newcastle back in front with 20 minutes still to play.

Viliami Helu and Charlie Hayter led the Wasps fightback with two tries in the space of seven minutes, while Andy Goode added a penalty.

George McGuigan reduced the gap for Newcastle in the final minute of the match, but it was too late for them to avoid the defeat.
