Gloucester face ineligible player charge

Gloucester Rugby face a hearing with the RFU after failing to register Mariano Galarza correctly for their Aviva Premiership game against Sale Sharks.

Gloucester Rugby will face a hearing with the Rugby Football Union after being found to have fielded an ineligible player during an Aviva Premiership match earlier this year.

Argentine lock Mariano Galarza, who signed for the club in February 2014, returned from a long-term injury in the 23-6 defeat to Sale Sharks in March.

According to BBC Sport, an administrative error meant that the 28-year-old was not properly registered for his comeback, but the problem was fixed before he featured in the Challenge Cup semi-final win over Exeter Chiefs earlier this month.

In 2013, London Welsh were docked three points and fined £15,000 for fielding Tyson Keats while he was ineligible.
