Gareth Steenson 'disappointed' by Wasps defeat

Exeter Chiefs ace Gareth Steenson praises Wasps for the way they composed themselves to claim victory in Sunday afternoon's Aviva Premiership meeting.

Gareth Steenson has insisted that the disappointment of missing out on victory against Wasps will not weigh heavily on the minds of his Exeter Chiefs teammates.

The Devon outfit slipped to a 36-29 defeat at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday afternoon, despite clawing themselves right back into the contest and within touching distance of a huge win.

Despite the setback, Exeter are still within one point of the top four heading into the final couple of weeks of the Aviva Premiership season.

"It's disappointing, we probably let a game slip there because we had opportunities to get a result," Steenson said of the Wasps defeat. "At the end of the season, to come to places like this is tough to get a result.

"We got ourselves back in the game to be three points down and then it's a pressure game situation. Fair play to Wasps, though, they were under a lot of pressure, but it was a great try from Joe Simpson.

"To get away with a bonus point gets ourselves into the top [European] comp next year, so that's key for us. Now we've got a couple of games to try to get ourselves into that top-four spot."

The Chiefs face Saracens and Sale Sharks in their final two games of the regular campaign.
