Stuart Lancaster hopes for Heineken Cup resolution

England rugby union coach Stuart Lancaster says that he would like to see the Aviva Premiership sides continue to compete in the Heineken Cup after this season.

Stuart Lancaster has said that he would like to see English clubs continue to compete in European competitions.

The contracts between clubs and the Heineken Cup expire at the end of the season, with the Aviva Premiership sides yet to agree a new deal.

The England head coach told Sky Sports News: "I think if we had a choice we'd rather they played in Europe, no doubt about it. We'll just have to wait to see how it plays out.

"I'm aware of what's going on but I'm not directly involved. It could be a blow if the competition doesn't come to pass, but it's too early to say and we'll just have to wait and see because no one knows yet what will happen.

"From my personal point of view I would hope it does get resolved. Look at the games this weekend, they are all exciting. You've got players playing at the highest level in games where the result really does matter."

An English side has not won the tournament since London Wasps beat Leicester Tigers in the 2007 final.
