Bath beat Leicester 26-25 at the Rec to record their first win over their rivals in three years.

Bath claimed their first win over Leicester Tigers in three years with a narrow 26-25 victory at the Rec.

Sam Vesty kicked the West Country side into an early lead before an interception by Jeremy Staunton allowed him to score a try under the posts, which he converted.

Vesty kicked over for Bath again before two Staunton penalties gave the Tigers a 13-6 advantage.

Another Staunton kick extended the lead, but Dave Attwood's try right on half-time, with Vesty kicking the extras, made it 13-16 at the break.

Staunton struck with the boot twice after the interval to stretch the scores, but Matt Carraro's try, and replacement Tom Heathcote's kick, cut Leicester's lead to two points on the hour.

The teenager kicked again to give Sir Ian McGeechan's side a 23-22 advantage, but yet another Staunton penalty put Richard Cockerill's team in front.

Heathcote then smashed a penalty against the posts before landing another kick to make it 26-25 to Bath.

The away side could have won it with the final kick of the match, but Staunton, who had kicked all of his side's points up to then, fired wide.
