England 'decide against appealing Sam Burgess ban'

England reportedly decide against appealing the one-match ban handed to Sam Burgess following their World Cup opening defeat to Australia.

England have reportedly decided against appealing the one-match ban handed to forward Sam Burgess for a high tackle during his nation's World Cup match against Australia.

The 24-year-old was hit with the punishment after he was placed on report by referee Henry Perenara during England's 28-20 defeat to Australia.

The South Sydney star appeared to catch Sam Thaiday in the head with a swinging arm during the second half of the encounter last Saturday.

According to BBC Sport, England have decided to accept the ban, meaning that Burgess will be unavailable for his nation's second Group A game against Ireland.
