Police investigate alleged "assault" on Chris Brunt

Thames Valley Police confirm that they will investigate an incident from the FA Cup tie between Reading and West Brom in which Chris Brunt appeared to be hit by a coin.

Thames Valley Police have confirmed that they are looking into an incident involving Chris Brunt at the end of Saturday's FA Cup clash between Reading and West Bromwich Albion at the Madejski Stadium.

The Baggies were knocked out of the competition by their Championship opponents after three goals in the final 30 minutes saw the Royals come from behind to claim a 3-1 victory for a place in the quarter-finals.

After the match, Brunt appeared to be hit with an object from the section of the stadium housing his club's own fans, with the player later saying he was "disgusted and ashamed" by the actions of those responsible.

The police have now confirmed that they will investigate the incident, which they are treating as an assault on the footballer.

"The incident will be dealt with as an assault and we will be working with West Bromwich Albion and Reading to resolve the issue and identify anyone involved," said a spokesperson from Thames Valley Police.

The Football Association has also confirmed that it will look into the incident.
