Police seize $20m counterfeit Super Bowl goods

Over $20m worth of counterfeit goods are seized by officers ahead of this weekend's Super Bowl in New York and New Jersey.

Police have seized over $20m (£12.1m) worth of counterfeit goods in the run-up to this weekend's Super Bowl.

Officers have been running a 24-hour operation at New York's JFK airport as fans head to the city for the game, which is being held at the MetLife Stadium in neighbouring New Jersey.

Special agent in charge of homeland security in New York, James T Hayes, told FoxNews.com: "We have seized upwards of $20m worth of counterfeit merchandise, most of which is related to the Super Bowl. We've executed 11 arrests so far and expect to make more in the coming days.

"If it's produced, it's being counterfeited. This is the perfect environment for counterfeiters because of street vendors. Even a savvy consumer can be fooled."

Fake tickets, knock-off jerseys and counterfeit hats are among the most-seized items so far this year.
