Swiss, German press argue over Stanislas Wawrinka nationality

Swiss and German media argue over the nationality of Austrlian Open winner Stanislas Wawrinka.

A Swiss newspaper has accused a German newspaper of trying to 'steal' Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka.

The Swiss-born world number three also hold German citizenship due to father's German ancestry, leading Bild Zeitung to label him "the German tennis sensation".

Blick points out that Wawrinka, who was born in Lausanne, speaks no German and is classed as Swiss by the ATP.

The win has moved Wawrinka up to Swiss number one.
