Michael Owen angers Flintshire residents on 'Family Fortunes'

Michael Owen angers residents in Flintshire after claiming that he was from a village near Cheshire while on Family Fortunes.

Stoke City striker Michael Owen has angered residents in his home of Flintshire while appearing on a celebrity version of Family Fortunes.

The former Liverpool forward, who grew up in North Wales, told viewers that he came from "Ewloe, near Cheshire", despite the village sitting in Flintshire.

Nigel Williams, who runs the Tea Station in Northop, told the Daily Post: "I was watching the programme and when he said his family were from 'Ewloe near Cheshire' I was gobsmacked. There was no mention of Northop, no mention of Flintshire, not even North Wales.

"I can see his house from where we live in Northop and I would certainly never say I live near Chester, it is 10 miles away. After all Flintshire has done for him to support his football career as a schoolboy and he just forgets about where he has come from and still lives.

"I was really incensed by it and so have all the other people who have spoken to me about it today. I also sit on the Flintshire tourist board and we are doing all we can to promote the county, we could use help from celebs like Michael Owen, instead he forgets about us."

Owen attended primary and secondary school in Hawarden.
