Wolverhampton Wanderers agree a £16m fee with Sporting Lisbon for the transfer of goalkeeper Rui Patricio, who initially joined on a free during the summer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have agreed a £16m fee with Sporting Lisbon for the transfer of goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

The 30-year-old initially joined Wolves on a free transfer during the summer after being one of nine players to terminate their contract at Sporting following an attack by fans at the club's training ground.

However, Sporting have been fighting for compensation and were originally demanding €57m (£50.2m) from Wolves via an official complaint to FIFA.

The two clubs have now come to an agreement for an €18m (£15.9m) settlement, though, ending the dispute.

"Wolves have reached an agreement that will see Sporting Clube de Portugal receive a fee of €18m for the transfer of goalkeeper Rui Patricio," read a statement on Wolves' official website.

"Wolves now consider the matter finalised and will make no further comment."

Patricio has started all 10 Premier League games for Wolves so far this season, helping them to 10th place in the table.
